The Integrated Manufacturing Environment
GETTING THE MOST out of your real-time
process data
Good decisions require clear,
accurate, and timely data. While some companies struggle to collect the raw data
necessary for corporate decision making, companies within the process industries
typically have no shortage of raw data. A typical manufacturing company is
overflowing with data of all types - real-time, near real-time, relational, time
series, structured, and unstructured. This data feeds a wide array of vertical
applications – everything from batch process modeling to financial reporting.
For decades, companies have been searching for a method of combining all of the various data sources that exist in their organization. Process data from the shop floor is typically stored independently of business and operations data. What is needed is to reference process data in the language of business, and vice versa.
This historically elusive data system would bring competitive advantages through productivity efficiencies, increased quality, and business agility. Many of the barriers to realizing this vision are common across company types. However, companies within the process industries face unique challenges, demanding a broad range of foundational technologies that are designed to integrate by default.
The goal of the integrated enterprise is twofold. First, companies need an enduring platform upon which to build line-of-business applications that fuel operational excellence. Second, companies want to minimize uncertainty in the decision making process at all levels of the organization. The realization of these objectives is through the latest suite of technologies from Microsoft® and OSIsoft™. The amalgamation of these core technologies is the Integrated Manufacturing Environment, or IME.
Despite an abundance of data and applications, companies within the process industries often struggle with:
- Data Integration
- Distributed Computing
- Presentation Services
- Collaboration
- Alerting/Notifications
- Security
- Workflow
The IME architecture enables organizations to create powerful applications that fuel business intelligence and corporate performance management
Omicron has written a whitepaper that introduces the Integrated Manufacturing Environment. IME integrates information from both production and operations, and facilitates the development of solutions that surface this information in clear, actionable displays. IME-enabled applications fuel production quality, efficiency, business intelligence, workflow, and collaboration across the enterprise.
