RtPortal Workshop

Offering: Omicron’s experience as the developer of RtWebParts provides a unique perspective on the process and value of creating a Real-time Manufacturing Visibility Portal. A Real-time Manufacturing Visibility Portal provides transparency throughout your process, allowing data to be seen and used by organizational groups outside of process engineering.

Program Value Statement: A Real-time Manufacturing Visibility Portal provides multiple benefits including the ability to combine, correlate and visualize disparate data sources in real-time. The platform allows companies to gather data, assign contextual references, execute analysis and visualize data in portal based view. This allows companies to gain competitive advantage by leveraging the environment for:

  • KPI Dash Boards – Allows staff to review, at a glance, the key performance indicators of the real-time system.
  • Plan vs. Actual – Allows users to review how the business is performing against plan.
  • Operations Alerts – Allows users to be notified if values are out of specifications for reliability, operating goals or safety.
  • Condition Based Maintenance – Uses data on equipment usage to help schedule maintenance activates which are not purely time based initiatives.
  • Quality Reporting – Allows companies to establish a tight control on quality release metrics and reduce product release timelines.

General Offering Description: The following is a general description of the "RtPortal Workshop" offering.

OSIsoft RtWebParts and Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server

Omicron leverages the newest platforms from Microsoft and OSIsoft that will enable companies to implement solutions which will be adopted and easily fit into existing infrastructures and development models.

The portal view is built upon Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and OSIsoft’s RtWebParts and RtPM Platforms. This implementation is done leveraging a service oriented architecture to allow companies to future – proof the investment in the portal.

Microsoft provides the base portal platform to enable document management and team collaboration. Added to this is OSIsoft’s RtWebParts product that allows companies to provide visibility to real-time, relational and unstructured data delivered via Time-series, SQL Datasets and Web Services access methods.

Two Phase Process - RtWebParts Workshop and Production Implementation

Omicron applies a combination of industry best practices and Omicron proprietary methodology to successfully deliver a Manufacturing Visibility Portal. The first phase, RtWebParts Workshop creates a risk-free vision and puts a production plan in place for an RtWebParts rollout. Once the solution is risk-free, the production creation begins. In total, this is a six step process that allows a company to make a front end investment to reduce the risk of the solution. Once the team is comfortable, the attention can turn to production creation. The first three steps are part of Omicron’s RtWebParts Workshop.

  1. Step 1: Envisioning - This step provides an education on the capabilities of RtWebParts. It also looks into the future of what can be accomplished when your company completes the Manufacturing Visibility Portal project.
  2. Step 2: Architectural Design & Solution De-Risking POC – This step looks at ‘How to’ create the solution, assess the risks and creates a working Proof of Concept of your risk-free solution.
  3. Step 3: Implementation Planning – The final RtWebParts Workshop step is to create an implementation plan that includes High Level Requirements, Development Plan, Roll-out Plan, Team Strategy, Full Project Budget.
  4. Step 4: Implementation - This step turns the envisioned solution into reality. Included is the creation of items such as SOA development, analytical application creation, visibility portal. The solution is then tested and escalated to production.
  5. Step 5: User Adoption - Any user training on technology and process change is completed to insure full adoption of the solution. This begins the user feedback cycle, once they have a taste of something good they will want more.
  6. Step 6: Management of Change & Continuous Improvement - Omicron works with our clients to create a unique system turnover and support model. A full spectrum of models exists from turn-key outsourced to graduated in-house support models.
