Offshore Production Monitoring

Omicron has helped multiple North Sea customers achieve great economies of scale by monitoring oil and gas production for hundreds of oil wells in multiple fields from an onshore center. OSIsoft PI and Microsoft SharePoint were central to these projects and Omicron’s consulting efforts were crucial in the successful implementation.

Omicron's OSIsoft PI consultants have made oil platform data accessible to management.

In one instance, the application was created in multiple phases. Phase 1 focused on the core functionality and real-time displays. Phase 2 focused on automated real-time warnings on are provided on condition monitors and alerts. Later phases expanded the application to include gas production, resource tracking and other important areas.

Omicron consultants installed and configured OSIsoft PI, Microsoft SharePoint and PI Webparts. Omicron also created the custom webparts and custom displays necessary to bring data from all the sources together as an integrated whole.

PI has enabled improved data integrity and reliability and it provides protection from data loss when communications are disrupted. With the great number of signals PI can collect and archive for many years, the oil and gas producer can feed into its analysis tools data which is broader and deeper and covers a much longer timespan. This improved data mining capability has enabled the company to achieve substantial operational improvements, including giving the company early-warning signals of emerging problems.
